The One With The Contest Entry: Lamson, Form IV

Myself on my opinion.  After  finishing form four.  I like to be educational officer.  Because there are some measures when it is taken can lead to the improvement of education in our country.  There are some problems which facing the development of education in our country.  Most of the people (children) lack education because parents refuse to send them to school.  And others lack education because they do not know the importance of school.  And parents fail to pay school fees and to buy uniform is another problems.  If I finishing form four and getting university education I like to be educational officer so as to do the following

To ensure that every child should go to school in our society there are some children who are not getting primary education.  This is because their parents do not send them to school.  Because they are unable to buy uniform, books, exercise books and other importance materials.

To advise the governments to build a laboratory room and good library in every school so as to enable students to get easily learning materials.  Because the most causes of droping performance of students is the absence of library and laboratory.  So if I will be in position as an education officer I will advise the government to build laboratory and library in every school.

To support orphans and poor family to want the aid in world banks and other different institutions.  This is because most of people can not get education or go to school because of money.  Also the lack of family care lead some one to fun from school.  So when I have been in position I will gave the parents and students about the importance of education.

I like to be educational officer for the aim of ensuring every school to have all kinds of teachers.  Because there are some school like Kafule Secondary which lacks teachers especially in science subjects.  I like to be educational officer to ensure the presence of every kind of teachers in our given schools.
If I will be educational officer can remove hard punishment to students like beating students more than four strokes.  Because beating students is a source of dropping out in school and fail of students.  Beating lead some one to enter in our class because they fear to beat.  So the best solution is to give them advise and doing exercise than beating them like theif.

Therefore after the above reasons which influence me to be an educational officer after finishing form four.  Also there are some problems which led students to fail.  Most of them are poor participation in class, hard punishment, and lack of teacher especially in science subjects.

Short story about a school garden
Neemas group was standing around a small beautiful school garden the who was showing the group round the school said this is the only school garden we have.  We grow different kinds of fruits such as bananas, mangoes, oranges, pawpaws and many others.  Each pupil gets an orange every Wednesday when there are plenty of oranges. On Monday the pupils get ugali and meat for their lunch they also get ripe bananas on Fridays after their afternoon meal.  Neema asked do you sell any fruit at the market.  Yes the teacher answered the school sometimes sells mangoes bananas and oranges it doesn’t sell pawpaws because they are just enough for us.

COCONUT TREE

Coconut tree,
So tall and high,
When I look at you
I’ve go to wink my eye

Coconut tree,
You coconut big,
Like football in the sky
Drop down one for me,

If only I could reach you,
If only I could reach you,
Sweet water and jelly,
Straight to my belly.

But right now coconut,
You up so high,
I can’t reach you,
I could only tell you,

Coconut tree.

The One With The Contest Entries: Lea, Form II

When I complete my studies I’ll be a pilot.
Pilot is the person who flies on aeroplane.  Flying this aeroplane is very best post this is due to the following evidences on my side.
It is an accurate transport, flying aeroplane it simplifying transport on of people from various place, this is because sir transport does not consume much time than other transport. Like water transport and load transport.
It is attractive, being pilot seems to be the one of the post which at ways attractive me so much.  It is the ways pilot flies it and becomes attractive person that is why I like to be a pilot.
It make the person to be well condected with different people from various place this reach to various place like America, Asia and other place.  He or she may buld good relationship with the people.
It does not delay to arrive to destination that is why people arrive in time even from Tanzania to America.
This increase the income to a person and nation, an individual is enriched due to this aeroplane employment and also a nation gets an income through this kind of transport therefore it becomes important thing for me.
So I am struggling through education so that interson after completing my studies to be come a pilot.

The One With The Inspectors (2/19/2013)

Yesterday afternoon Dahlia and I were told that inspectors were coming to Kafule to observe some of our classes.  The Ministry of Education apparently sent out their school inspectors to visit all of the international teachers to observe different international teaching styles, learn about different education systems and ask for suggestions to improve the system here.  So today I got to meet and talk to the inspectors and teach a class for them to observe.  It was really fun to reflect with them on different education systems.  And I am so impressed with the Ministry of Educations desire to continually improve their system.

The One With The Cananasi’s Roof (2/19/2013)

A few weeks ago (and yes, I am just now getting around to writing a blog about it… sorry) there was a huge storm. Deafening downpours as the rain beat against our tin roof and frightening wind made it so loud that Dahlia and I couldn’t even hear each other talk.  Four trees were knocked over in the village, thankfully no one was hurt.  But as the storm began to calm the bell at the primary school, which, keep in mind, is directly across from our house, began ringing… and ringing… and ringing… for no less than an hour straight.  An emergency town meeting was being called.  Evidently our neighbors, the Cananasi’s, roof blew off.  And the meeting was being called to determine what the village should do.  It was decided that they would move into an abandoned house nearby so everyone pitched in to clean it up.  People in the village mean what they say when they tell me that no one has to face a problem on their own.  Any issue is a village issue.

The One With The Defeat Of The Rat (2/19/2013)

This past weekend was an exceptionally exciting one! For about 3 months now Dahlia and I have been engaged in a battle with a rat that had chosen to make our home his home as well.  I know it’s not very Tanzanian of us to kick someone out but we really don’t want a third roommate.  Anyway, in November we started noticing bites out of our food.  And apparently our rat was an inquisitive guy because he would eat not just one piece of produce but one bite out of each piece of produce.  A few days later we caught him in action and after much screaming and jumping onto the furniture we were eventually able to chase him out of the house.  “Gone,” we though.  If only life were that simple.  He was back the next day.  “Not a problem,” we though, “we are smarter than a rat.”  So we started covering all of our food at night.  To no avail.  The rat continued to join us each and every evening.  “Ok,” we though, “we will scrub down the kitchen.  Maybe he is just finding scraps on the floor.”  So with our squeaky clean kitchen and covered food we though peaceful nights would be restored.  And to an extent they were.  But somehow our furry enemy was still getting at our food.  He was smarter than we gave him credit for.  He was coming during the day when our food was uncovered.  Covering the food all day wasn’t an option because it would go bad before the next market day.  So we thought, and thought, and though.  And we came up with a fool proof (or so we thought at the time) plan.  We would hang the food in baskets from the rafters using laundry line, waxy and thin, there is no way he can climb down that.  So we set to work and now have suspended produce strategically hung to turn our kitchen into an obstacle course.  But we were bested again; evidently belaying down the line is no problem for our enemy.  (Although not all was lost because by hanging the produce we inadvertently solved our cockroach problem.)  Feeling defeated, we decided it was time for the rat to die.  So our next plan was for Dahlia to corner him and bludgeon him to death.  After 2 unsuccessful attempts (who knew how fast those things are, or that they can climb walls) we resorted to poisoning our food.  Three nights of leaving the bait out and we finally awoke to the glorious sight of a dead rat.  Victory at last!

As a side note, we asked what locals do to get rid of the rats. “Nothing.” Was the response given to us again and again.  Elizabeth said they often fall off the rafters into her bed while she is asleep.  She simply rolls over.

The One With The New Link (2/14/2013)

After several failed attempts to correctly set up my fundraising page I think I have finally succeeded.  For those of you who tried to donate money towards the solar panels using the last link, thank you for trying.  But  apparently my internet cut out while I was setting up the page and so you were not able to donate. Anyway, here is the new link.  Please let me know if there are any problems with this one.  Thank you again so much for considering this!

The One With The Contest (2/13/2013)

Dahlia and I have both been experiencing some mid-semester blues lately.  I know what you are thinking… it is the second week of February, not exactly mid-semester.  But when you take out time for midterms, finals, marking, Easter break, and closing the school we are actually just about half way through class time this semester.

Anyway, Dahlia and I decided we need to do something to boost our motivation.  So we decided to hold a writing contest.  It is open to the whole school and there are two categories: poem/short story (topic open-ended) and essay (on that they want to do after graduation and why).  The entries aren’t due until March 12th but I am really excited to see what the students turn in!

The One With The Hair Cuts (2/13/2013)

Today at morning assembly there was hail length inspection.  The students here, both boys and girls, must keep their hair no more than about a centimeter long.  If their hair is longer than that a teacher will cut a chunk out which is apparently just about the most embarrassing thing that can happen to a student here.  They so anything and everything to try to cover up their shame until they can get home and even it out.  This morning I walked into a form one class and there was a boy, whose hair was evidently too long, who had tied a blue plastic grocery bag over his head.  Sometimes I don’t understand these kids.  He crinkled every time he moved and clearly was not effective in diverting attention from himself.  But the missing patch of hail was covered and I guess that’s all that matters.

The One With The Form Poem (1/31/2013)

I recently received a text message from another WorldTeach volunteer who is teaching English.  He was teaching a lesson about form poems and had each of his students write one of their own.  Here is the poem that one student wrote:
Boy
Tall and handsome
Dancing badly
Like a frog
If only he would stop

The One With The Tree Planting (1/31/2013)

Tree planning is well underway as the headmaster continues to move forward with his plan to plant and harvest trees for timber.  With the rainy season in full swing it is the perfect time to move the trees out of the school nursery.  Unfortunately this means a few afternoon classes have been canceled recently so the students can help plant.  But it is really exciting to see the school investing in these kinds of projects.
