Today at morning assembly there was hail length
inspection. The students here, both boys
and girls, must keep their hair no more than about a centimeter long. If their hair is longer than that a teacher
will cut a chunk out which is apparently just about the most embarrassing thing
that can happen to a student here. They
so anything and everything to try to cover up their shame until they can get
home and even it out. This morning I
walked into a form one class and there was a boy, whose hair was evidently too
long, who had tied a blue plastic grocery bag over his head. Sometimes I don’t understand these kids. He crinkled every time he moved and clearly
was not effective in diverting attention from himself. But the missing patch of hail was covered and
I guess that’s all that matters.
